Jazz and Blues legend Barbara Morrison’s final album, BLUES MAMA!, has been released on all major online streaming platforms. The album, which she was working on before her passing in March 2022, showcases her unmistakable and authentic style that made her a household name in the music industry.

Producer David Longoria, who collaborated with Morrison on the album, expressed his sadness at her loss but also highlighted the joy of having her lifetime of creativity preserved for millions to enjoy. Longoria, a Grammy-nominated music producer and artist, first met Morrison in 2018 when she featured on his album MOOD, and they instantly became friends due to her beautiful spirit and incredible voice.

BLUES MAMA! features 15 songs, including Morrison’s signature blues classics delivered in her unique style. The album also includes two original songs written by Longoria and iconic songwriter Carol Connors. One of the songs, titled “Gotta Get To You,” is sung by Longoria himself as Morrison passed away before recording the vocals. Longoria decided to include it as a bonus track as a tribute to her and her legacy.

In addition to the main tracks, the album includes three special excerpts from the title song, showcasing playful renditions in old blues styles. These interludes and postlude add a unique touch to the album.

Throughout her career, Morrison performed at numerous concerts, blues clubs, and Jazz and Blues festivals worldwide. She shared the stage with legendary artists such as Buddy Guy, Carlos Santana, Stevie Wonder, Dizzy Gillespie, Chaka Khan, Ray Charles, Etta James, and Tony Bennett, leaving an indelible mark on the music industry.

In 2019, Morrison established the Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center in Leimert Park, California, providing a platform for performers of all ages and cultures to showcase their talents in music and dance. In recognition of her contributions, the City of Los Angeles named the intersection in front of her venue Barbara Morrison Square in her honor in 2022.

Carol Connors, the iconic songwriter, praised Morrison’s jazz interpretation of her song “With You I’m Born Again,” describing it as a transformative experience. Dionne Warwick also expressed her admiration for Morrison, stating that her last recording should be considered for a Grammy without hesitation.

Barbara Morrison’s final album, BLUES MAMA!, is a testament to her incredible talent and will continue to inspire and captivate audiences for years to come.
