When the D-Fenders fell behind by a dozen points after the first quarter against the D-League’s second-best team, their outlook may have seemed bleak. But they responded by outscoring Austin by 25 over the next two periods to cruise to a 110-96 victory.
“(It was) just a desire to keep competing,” D-Fenders head coach Casey Owens said. “When you don’t miss a shot (like Austin did), that’s just agains the law of averages and basketball karma. We knew they were going to miss shots.
“We couldn’t hang our heads, and we didn’t. We kept digging back in it.”
D-Fender of the Game
Josh Magette: The Birmingham, Ala., native recorded a triple-double by racking up 13 points, 10 rebounds and 15 assists. Magette took only 10 shots, but managed to get everyone else involved as six of the eight D-Fenders suited up reached 13 points or more.
Looking Ahead
The D-Fenders host the streaking Idaho Stampede on Monday at 8 p.m. in a game televised by ESPNU. Idaho has won three straight games, though it fell by 10 in its first meeting with L.A. on Dec. 18.
