Some artists drop albums. Runkus launches them into orbit.
The Jamaican genre-bender returns with SUPERNOVA, a bold, mind-expanding project that stretches reggae into something cosmic, philosophical, and just a little bit otherworldly. It’s rooted in tradition but refuses to stay put—blending heavy basslines, dancehall energy, and introspective lyricism into a story about transformation, shedding old selves, and stepping into something bigger. In other words: growth, but make it groove.
“This album is basically me exploding into a new version of myself,” says Runkus. “You know…casual supernova behavior.”
That evolution doesn’t stop at the music. Teaming up with Bahamian visual artist Tavares Strachan, Runkus builds a fully immersive world where sound and visual art collide. It’s the kind of collaboration that echoes iconic creative pairings like The Velvet Underground and Andy Warhol, or Kanye West and Virgil Abloh, but with a distinctly Caribbean, future-facing pulse.
On the record, Runkus proves he can do it all. “SURE AS THE SUN” featuring Sean Paul radiates pure, feel-good energy, while “SHEEP” taps into the voice of reggae legend Peter Tosh, weaving past and present into something entirely new. The result is an album that feels expansive, inventive, and deeply intentional.
Critics are already all in—Echoes Magazine awarded SUPERNOVA a perfect 5-star rating, calling it “the most imaginative, progressive and totally mind-blowing album you’ll likely hear all year.”
Fresh off a JUNO Award win and building on a career that includes MOBO recognition and GRAMMY®-nominated work, Runkus continues to push reggae forward without losing its soul. Born in Portmore, Jamaica, and raised in a musical family, he’s been shaping his sound since childhood—and now, he’s redefining the genre on his own terms.
SUPERNOVA isn’t just an album. It’s a glow-up, a statement, and a full-on cosmic moment.
