Crucial, the Southern region’s rap diamond in the dirt was born and raised in the rough southside streets of Montgomery, Alabama. Crucial began rapping and producing at the tender age of 11, comprising his first song for a D.A.R.E. campaign at his elementary school. While escaping the terrors of street life, over the years, he has grown into a prolific lyricist capable of delivering a consistent flow composed of thought-provoking lyrics detailing the harsh realities of street life from a conscience perspective, intertwining it all with a southern swagger. His music reveals the inner-emotions, experieneces and perspectives of issues of the world through his eyes.
In addition to being an artist, he is also an engineer, video director/editor, graphic designer, and tattooist. In 2006, fresh out of high school, he founded Critical Labz LLC in his hometown of Montgomery which functions as a production company in addition to supplying arts media services to others in the surrounding areas. With a “can’t lose formula” of being totally self-contained, self-motivated, ambitious, and extremely talented, Crucial’s fan base continues to grow with every ear.
In 2014, after an extensive internship with Atlantic Records, Crucial formed a new brand, Greenwood Gurley. Greenwood Gurley represents his entreprenuerial spirit as well as his willingness to shed light on the historical value of Black Wall Street and what it represents to him as a young black businessman. Look for big things from Crucial in 2016.
