Bvrdv is looking beyond simply releasing another collection of songs with his album The Imprint. The artist describes the 10-track project as a culmination of his musical development, personal experiences and belief in music’s ability to affect listeners emotionally and spiritually.
The album’s title carries particular significance for Bvrdv. He points to Jay-Z’s The Blueprint and Nicki Minaj’s The Pinkprint as influential projects that preceded his own concept. For Bvrdv, The Imprint represents another step in that lineage while introducing audiences to a side of himself he believes many have not previously encountered.
While his face has been known through other areas of entertainment, Bvrdv said the album is intended to connect that public image with his voice, thoughts and musical perspective.
He also connects the project to colors, chakras, healing and his belief in what music can do for people.
The road to the album was deeply personal. Bvrdv said experiences throughout his life — including experiences of people around him — contributed to the material. He described spending the past two and a half years on what he characterized as bed rest involving his body, mind and soul.
During that period of stillness, he said ideas emerged through dreams and what he describes as prophetic messages and triple entendres. Some of those messages, he said, took time for him to understand.
Rather than constructing The Imprint around one dominant feeling, Bvrdv wanted its 10 songs to represent a wider emotional spectrum. The goal was to create an album capable of changing with its listener.
A song that connects strongly one day may be replaced by another favorite depending on the listener’s circumstances or mood. That flexibility was intentional.
Bvrdv also took extensive creative control of the project. He said he wrote, arranged, recorded his vocals, mixed and mastered The Imprint himself.
That hands-on approach reflects how he views his growth as a musician. He does not suggest there is nothing left for him to learn, but sees completing a composition according to an artist’s own creative vision as an important form of mastery.
Among the album’s songs, “Boutchya” stands out as perhaps its most personal.
Bvrdv said the record connects to a former love who remained on his mind while he was pursuing acting and modeling opportunities internationally. He said thinking about that relationship helped motivate him to pursue his potential and envision being able to provide for a future family.
But, like much of The Imprint, Bvrdv says the song carries more than one meaning. Its ideas extend into destiny, time, relationships and the sacrifices people sometimes make while pursuing their purpose.
For Bvrdv, those layers are central to what he wants listeners to discover.
The Imprint is not intended to tell audiences everything in a single listen. Bvrdv wants people to return to it, hear something different and discover meanings that may change depending on where they are emotionally.
The album’s title ultimately summarizes that ambition: Bvrdv wants the music to remain with listeners after the final song ends.
