Emerging artist <\/span>Trent<\/span> Dupri is carving out his own space in hip-hop with music built around authenticity, everyday experiences and the ability to capture a vibe listeners can relate to. With a new EP, <\/span>\u201cSummer After Summer Tape,\u201d<\/span> on the way, Trent Dupri is preparing for the next stage of a journey that has already taken him from local performances to major stages alongside some of hip-hop\u2019s most recognizable names. Now trending, his single “Most Hated” is paving the path to the highly anticipated project.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For Trent, the connection to music started long before he ever stepped into a studio. As a kid, weekends at his grandmother\u2019s house often included watching <\/span>The Box<\/span>, the iconic music television channel that allowed viewers to call in and request music videos. His grandmother would pay for his requests, giving a young Trent an early window into the lifestyle, creativity and visual world surrounding hip-hop.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

One of the moments that stuck with him was seeing <\/span>Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre<\/span> on television. Watching artists like Snoop and <\/span>Tupac Shakur<\/span> command attention and connect with audiences around the world planted the idea that he could one day create that same type of feeling through his own music.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

That influence remains present in Trent\u2019s approach today, but rather than simply recreate the music he grew up on, he focuses on making records that reflect different moods and moments in everyday life.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cI always try to make something relatable to the people, not just myself,\u201d Trent says.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

His creative process begins with chemistry. Trent doesn\u2019t force a record simply because a beat sounds good. The production has to connect with him first.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cThe beat gotta speak to me, and then I\u2019ll speak back,\u201d he explains. \u201cYou gotta have chemistry with your beat. That\u2019s how you make something that\u2019s magic.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

That philosophy has helped shape records like <\/span>\u201cBlue Strips,\u201d<\/span> currently streaming across digital platforms and a song Trent considers his favorite to perform.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

His musical influences stretch across generations. Trent points to <\/span>Jay-Z, Nas, Dr. Dre and Tupac<\/span> among the artists he admires, while also recognizing hip-hop pioneers including <\/span>Big Daddy Kane, Run-DMC and The Sugarhill Gang<\/span>. His appreciation for music extends well beyond rap, with soul and R&B legends <\/span>Isaac Hayes and Teddy Pendergrass<\/span> also playing a role in his musical perspective.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

When it comes to future collaborations, Trent has an ambitious list. On the artist side, he would like to work with <\/span>Fabolous<\/span> and <\/span>Babyface Ray<\/span>, while <\/span>Pharrell Williams, 808 Mafia and Kanye West<\/span> sit high on his list of desired producers.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And if he could choose one artist to open for?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cJay-Z, hands down.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Trent already knows what it feels like to command a sizable stage. His performance history stretches from hometown shows to <\/span>SXSW in Austin, Texas<\/span>, but one experience stands above the rest: performing at <\/span>Raley Field in Sacramento, California<\/span>, where he opened for <\/span>Nelly, Fat Joe and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The experience remains one of the highlights of his career.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was lit,\u201d Trent recalls, giving a special shoutout to the artists he shared the bill with.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Beyond Raley Field, Trent names <\/span>Original Mike\u2019s in Santa Ana<\/span> as another favorite venue, while his live ambitions continue to grow. Although no immediate dates have been announced, his team is currently developing new performance opportunities, with a potential <\/span>radio tour<\/span> also being discussed.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As his profile expands, Trent is equally focused on understanding the business behind the music. One of the most valuable pieces of advice he has received is simple: <\/span>learn the business.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s 90 percent business and 10 percent music,\u201d he says.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

That mentality has shaped the way Trent views today\u2019s entertainment landscape. He recognizes the internet and social media as powerful tools for independent artists, but he also understands the difference between online perception and reality.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

While digital platforms have created opportunities for artists to reach audiences without traditional gatekeepers, Trent believes the industry should place greater emphasis on talent and quality music rather than simply rewarding whoever happens to be popular online.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He also misses an era when music videos, television programming and dedicated music platforms played a larger role in breaking artists and creating cultural moments.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For Trent, however, looking back doesn\u2019t mean standing still.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

His next chapter centers around the upcoming <\/span>\u201cSummer After Summer Tape,\u201d<\/span> a new EP designed to further introduce listeners to his versatility, personality and perspective. Along with the project, Trent is pursuing more live performances and exploring opportunities outside of music\u2014particularly fashion.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Fashion has long been another passion for the emerging artist. If music had not become his primary pursuit, Trent says he would likely be building his own clothing line. As his career develops, he intends to explore that world rather than allowing himself to be defined solely as a recording artist.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not tryna be boxed in at all by any means,\u201d Trent says.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

That mindset ultimately defines where Trent is headed: music, fashion, performances and whatever opportunities make sense for the vision.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

His message to listeners reflects the same mentality that continues to drive his own career:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI have the same 24 hours as everybody else. You choose what you want to do with yours. Choosing the right approach can be a blessing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

With <\/span>\u201cSummer After Summer Tape\u201d<\/span> on the horizon, new shows in development and bigger ambitions beyond music, Trent is positioning himself not simply for a moment, but for a career built around creativity, authenticity and evolution.<\/span><\/p>\n
