MIIESHA Celebrates Empowerment with New Single/Video “Made for Silence”

Rising Indigenous-Australian R&B artist and “voice of change” (Vogue Australia) Miiesha has unveiled her statement making new single and video “Made For Silence”, which premiered today via Refinery29. Produced by Lucian Blomkamp (6Lack, Khalid), the track showcases Miiesha’s versatility as an artist, seamlessly shifting from a softer, alternative R&B to a more danceable, electronic-infused sound.

Says Miiesha of ‘Made For Silence’: “I never want to be put in a box, and I want to make songs people might not expect from me. I love exploring new sounds and pushing that, pushing my voice. Life has so many moments and changes and emotions, so I want my music too as well.”

Listen to “Made for Silence”, and watch the accompanying visual here.

“Made for Silence ” picks up Miiesha’s story where the previous single Damaged left off. Whilst “Damaged” explored the depths of intergenerational trauma and the pain Miiesha has felt over the broken relationship with her mother, “Made for Silence ” is Miiesha’s statement on empowerment, independence, and stepping into a place of catharsis. Explaining the shift, she shares “sometimes it’s better to stop talking and let silence do the healing”.

In the sleek accompanying visual, we find a decidedly upbeat Miiesha cruising in a car that also featured in the “Damaged” video in a dilapidated state. Although this time, the car is symbolically restored as it carries Miiesha forward on her journey.  Interspersed with high-octane cutaways of Miiesha zooming through the city streets, the creatively shot video radiates an electric energy and newfound sense of power for Miiesha.

“In “Damaged”, the car in the video represented my late grandmother who couldn’t carry my family forward anymore. I had to leave them behind to focus on surviving this grief myself, before I can go back for them. In “Made for Silence ”, I’m moving forward with what she left behind for me, she gave me that strength to carry on. I’m celebrating that strength and the connection we had”.  – Miiesha

“Made For Silence” is Miiesha’s second release of the year, following the success of her highly acclaimed, debut collection of songs, “Nyaaringu”. In addition to receiving 5 ARIA nominations and receiving the 2020 ARIA for Best Soul/R&B Release, NME voted “Nyaaringu ” as “Australian Album of the Year”. After some time out of the spotlight, Miiesha has returned in 2021 with a bang – releasing previous single “Damaged” to fanfare from PAPER Magazine, UPROXX, NPR, and rotation on Spotify’s “Fresh Finds” playlist. Now she’s gearing up to take her sound and message to an even bigger stage with new music due out over the Summer in the lead up to a full project later this year. Stay tuned for more from Miiesha very soon.
