When we hear the name 9000 or 9K we think famed engineer for several Grammy award-winning albums, popular Hollywood films such as Despicable Me and Fast and Furious, and business relationship with Jermaine Dupri and other major hitters and vets in the Entertainment Industry.
9K was uprooted at an early age from Queens to Atlanta and the transition was quite difficult for him. “Imagine a tall hard-headed kid having to change his universe, entering the unknown drenched in southern hospitality. From Mobb Deep, Nas, Wu to Master P, it was like figuring out a Rubik’s cube”.
The irony is 9K mastered that Rubik’s cube and mixed and mingled with business associates of Jermaine Dupri. From sunrise to sunset he sat in every studio session and soaked up each lesson given by Dupri and other major artists that walked through the studio.
9K began applying those lessons to master his own style and craft as Producer and Engineer. Within a short period of time his work became quite the buzz in Atlanta, especially from Andre 3000. “He said to me if your microphone abilities are as close to your pen abilities you can be a top 25 rapper, you paint ideas, scenarios, and situations with a vivid vocabulary”.
9K carries a platinum resume on his back of collaborations and business relationships with key musicians and celebrities such as Pharrell, Snoop Dogg, The Game, Justin Bieber, and Matthew Knowles just to name a few. The name 9K can also be seen flashing across the big screen in major motion movies like “Despicable Me” and “Fast and Furious”.
To date, 9K is a proud husband and father, continues to write and contribute to platinum recording artists, and is developing his personal solo artist endeavors under the label Ruby Recordings. Stay tuned the journey has just begun!
