“If the music game was over tomorrow I would be over tomorrow too,” states up-and-coming West Coast music artist Linkx. “I don’t just do music, I am music.”
Thanks to the influence of the hip hop culture, Linkx found his career path. He knew after learning about legendary emcees at a very young age that he wanted to pursue the music industry. Furthermore, Linkx supports rappers who have a dedication for the art form much like he does. “If we have a lot of rappers saying that they must have a passion for this, it’s great for the state of hip hop to keep the culture here years from now,” he says
As any music fan knows, because of great artists such as E-40, Tupac, Ice Cube and so on, the West Coast greatly influenced the hip hop culture in the 90’s. Even though some may argue that West Coast music has taken a backseat since its hype in earlier years, Linkx begs to differ. “The West Coast never went anywhere,” he avers.
Although Linkx is a strong advocate for the West Coast, he admits, “The West Coast has to do a better job with uniting and motivating our youth.” In addition, he recalls performing for the youth in middle schools and high schools as a teenager all over Southern California as some of his favorite memories.
Despite Linkx’s “humble upbringing,” it wasn’t always easy for him growing up in South Central Los Angeles and Antelope Valley, losing his father and being separated from his mother. Yet, he overcame adversity with the energy to pursue what he loves.
After collaborating on an album with his group Shot Callaz, he is ready to release his mixtape Chain Reaction in February. Also, like any artist will tell you, the creative process cannot be rushed. Linkx explains that his creativity depends on his mood. “Sometimes it takes 30 minutes or a few days [to write a song],” he confirms. “I wouldn’t say what I do is just rap. I’m an MC, a Master of Ceremony,” he adds.
