Curren$y Spits About The Lifestyle of the Rich and Famous with ‘Collection Agency’

New Orleans rapper Curren$y has a gift for prolific music. Coming through with his first project of a busy 2021, Spitta shares Collection Agency.

Packed with the hazy production and intricate rhymes that have been thrilling Curren$y fans for over a decade, Collection Agency finds the New Orleans native in his bag, spinning witticisms about his life of luxury and painting pictures with his detailed description.

The album features production from Harry FraudDj.freshTrauma Tone, and more, who create a smooth and sumptuous sonic palette that borrows from ’80s electrofunk and quiet storm R&B. The tape boasts recent singles like the luscious Kush Through The Sunroof” and the wistfully horn-laden Misty,” along with as-yet-unheard highlights like “I Don’t Call,” in which the rapper brags about getting bands in a pandemic, and the saxophone-drenched late-night heater “Jermaine Dupri, which drew praise from the man himself on Twitter. Featuring a guest appearance from Curren$y’s kindred spirit Larry June.

Along with the album, Curren$y shares a new animated visualizer for project highlight “Arrival.” Blessed with a jazzy boom-bap backing track courtesy of Harry Fraud, a mood that suits Curren$y’s detail-rich descriptive abilities, “Arrival” finds Curren$y dwelling on the psychological and material impacts of money.

The New Orleans native reflects on how his relationship with his mom and his less scrupulous relatives have changed, and stresses his accomplishments as a businessman:

“Success is my cologne/Thuggish ruggish bone/For the love of money/Loved ones do you wrong.”

Animated in a cutout style by Lakeem Wilson, the new visualizer situates Curren$y as a frontman to a band of dog musicians, while the animation shifts to match Spitta’s lyrics.

Collection Agency is Curren$y’s first new project of 2021, following a yet another busy year for the veteran rapper. In 2020, the uncountably prolific rapper released 4 full-length projects and multiple EPs, each with a different set of collaborators. He kicked off the year with The Tonite Show With Curren$y, an entry into Dj.fresh’s renowned series of mixtapes, before keeping the momentum up with the Cardo Got Wingz-produced Green Tape EP, Smokin’ Potnas, a collaborative effort with his Jet Life associate Fendi P, and Spring Clean, a 10-track project with 808 Mafia producer Fuse. The second half of 2020 brought TheOutRunners, a Harry Fraud-produced effort. The Jet Life CEO ended the year with Welcome To Jet Life Recordingsa label showcase that featured contributions from signees like T.Y.Black Cobain, and more.

Curren$y is always working, feeding his fans quality music while looking towards the future. Collection Agency is merely the first salvo in yet another productive year for the respected rap icon.
