Indie Stock Music Festival: Be Found

Indie Stock Festival

“I used to think I was the strangest person in the world, but then I thought there are so many people in the world. There must be someone just like me, who feels bizarre and flawed in the same ways I do. I would imagine her, and imagine that she must be out there thinking of me too. Well, I hope that if you are out there, you read this, and know that yes it’s true, I’m here, and I’m just as strange as you.”
–Frida Kahlo

The Indie Stock Music Festival was a waterboarding in subcultures. While I go to concerts to see a specific artist, I go to music festivals for the crowd, the camaraderie, and to resist the loneliness of the Instagram era.

The festival was a cross between burning man and Freddie Mercury. The attendees ranged from the rockers to the EDM kids, to the remnant hippies of the 60’s, and everything in between. Eschewing normality, their freak flags were held high, for this was the festival of the rejects who rose to build an empire called Rock & Roll.

Everything was a blur as if I had been spinning and suddenly stopped. My jaw ached from smiling; I looked like a madman, but I didn’t care. I was immersed in a world where I didn’t have to. Pleasure wasn’t a sin in this place; it was an offering, loved and cherished by all in attendance.

Time was turned back to when people spoke in person and when you could meet a lifelong friend at the supermarket. Vulnerability became a virtue with graceful hearts exposing themselves as If to say, “I’m here. See me. I’m no longer lost.”

  1. You should really start looking into the jam band side of the festival scene it’s always the most loving fans of the music and of the people around you. Not to mention all the amazing music that happens with decades worth of improv practice pushing music to its limits. The scene isn’t dominated but what the record label thinks you would like, the bands are solely famous because of there skill. It’s like a land without MTV. Check out
Umpheries Mcgee they’re my favorite of the scene.
