Prodigy (real name Albert Johnson) co-founded the hip-hop duo ‘Mobb Deep’ with Kejuan Muchita (better known as Havoc) in the early 1990’s. They released numerous successful projects both as a group and as solo acts. With Havoc supplying haunting, adrenaline-pumping production, the two emcees would annihilate verses, while solidifying their ‘Infamous’ reputation; striking fear within faint hearts, then extracting that fear for energy. Prodigy also made history with his role in many highly publicized rap beefs, including Tupac, Jay-Z, and Keith Murray. The exact cause of death is not known at this time. This unfortunate news was confirmed by a statement from his publicist.

“It is with extreme sadness and disbelief that we confirm the death of our dear friend Albert Johnson, better known to millions of fans as Prodigy of legendary NY rap duo Mobb Deep. Prodigy was hospitalized a few days ago in Vegas after a Mobb Deep performance for complications caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis. As most of his fans know, Prodigy battled the disease since birth. The exact causes of death have yet to be determined. We would like to thank everyone for respecting the family’s privacy at this time.”

R.I.P. Prodigy. The Infamous.
